Propolis is a substance that worker bees collect from the shoots and buds of plants, resinous substances and plant secretions by making biochemical changes with the enzymes secreted by the glands in their heads, ranging in color from dirty yellow to dark brown and semi-solid at room temperature.

In this product developed within the scope of the DEVELOPMENT OF FUNCTIONAL BEE PRODUCTS Project, the active ingredient (KAFE) content in propolis extract has been standardized according to the Turkish Pharmacopoeia monograph. The product is offered for sale in pharmacies under the brand name "APİTERA PLUS" by BALPARMAK. Studies have shown that propolis has many health effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antiseptic, local anesthetic, antiulcer and anti-decay, as well as high antimicrobial effect. It has been reported that the antibacterial components of propolis interact specifically with the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis (dissolution) and consequently bacterial death.
