Earth Sciences
The Earth Sciences Research Group was established in 1983 under the name of Earth Sciences Department within the Basic Sciences Research Institute and has gained expertise and knowledge in the field of Earth Sciences since its establishment and has developed its observation and data processing infrastructure.
The aim of the Earth Sciences Research Group is to be a group that carries out R&D Projects in the fields of Geophysical Imaging, Active Tectonics and Isotope Applications Research Technologies, uses up-to-date device infrastructure and technologies, trains expert and experienced researchers, produces fast, feasible solutions to the geoscience problems of our country and contributes to its sustainable development.
- Workspaces
Geosciences Research Group, earthquake hazard mitigation in residential areas with high earthquake hazard in our country, soil classification and seismic hazard assessment for urban transformation and urban planning, fault, soil liquefaction, landslide areas and sinkhole investigations, monitoring of earthquake activity and earthquake source studies, monitoring of aftershock activity after destructive earthquakes, preparation of geoscientific foundations required before the construction of structures such as nuclear power plants, large-scale military facilities, airports and dams, etc. It produces solutions to the problems of geosciences in our country by carrying out R&D activities with high added value and public benefit in geosciences such as underground imaging of archaeological sites, coal fields and geothermal fields with geophysical methods, determination and monitoring of local deformations.
In addition, Turkey's first and only AMS Laboratory within the Earth Sciences Research Group, with its infrastructure and trained human resources, has eliminated our foreign dependency by performing sensitive Carbon-14 analyses needed in the fields of dating our cultural heritage, determination of origin, analysis of historical earthquakes, geography, environment and sustainability, biomedical, pharmaceutical research, forensic medicine, nuclear sciences, biofuels and biomaterials with the latest technology at world standards.
