Bacterial Cellulose
About
Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a biopolymer composed of nanofibrils 20-100 nm in diameter and shorter than 30 µm. The nanostructure of BC provides significant advantages such as low thermal expansion, high strength and antibacterial activity in different applications. Therefore, it is used as a key input in the production of numerous innovative high-tech products such as biocompatible, antibacterial pharmaceutical and biomedical products, high quality reinforced paper, electro-acoustic transducer diaphragms, paints and coatings with functional properties, transparent optical thin films, fuel cell proton-conducting membranes. Global market forecasts predict that the BC market will be used in the near future for the production of functional textiles, biobased textiles, advanced functional nanomaterials, high-strength functional composites and functional packaging materials for the construction, automotive and aerospace industries. Within the scope of the project, bacterial cellulose production was completed and production conditions were optimized. In addition, an in situ method for bacterial cellulose production was developed and living bacterial cellulose microcapsules were produced.
