Hydrogen Burning Catalyst
About
H2Yak is a strategic and high-tech security product that has reached the THS 9 level, is protected by patent applications and is ready for mass production. This product, which eliminates foreign dependency and ensures life safety in all areas where hydrogen safety is critical, especially in the submarine platforms of the Turkish Naval Forces, also has significant export potential.
Product Overview
It is a critical passive safety system that safely eliminates hydrogen gas leaking into the environment during battery charging/discharging processes, especially in closed and ventilated environments such as submarines, without reaching the risk of explosion.

Production and Technology Status
Technology Readiness Level (THS)
THS 9
Current Status
It can be actively produced.
Patent/Licensing Status
The innovative nature of the product, TR2015/15235 numbered national and PCT/IB2016/057132 numbered international patent applications (Evaluation process is ongoing).
Production Capacity
1,200 units per year. This high capacity indicates that the infrastructure for mass production of the product is ready and can meet the needs of a fleet or be exported.
Technical Capabilities and Capacity
H2Yak converts hydrogen gas into harmless water vapor by flamelessly combining it with oxygen in the air (catalytic combustion).
Working Principle
Palladium-coated catalytic plates initiate the reaction even at very low concentrations before the hydrogen concentration reaches dangerous levels (%4) and continuously purify the environment from hydrogen.
Performance
It has a very high hydrogen removal capacity of 72,000 liters per hour (20 l/h). It starts automatically at temperatures above 0°C.
Structural Features
Consisting of 25 catalytic plates, the unit weighs approximately 5 kg in a stainless steel cassette and aluminum alloy protective frame. This modular construction facilitates maintenance and replacement.
Security
During operation, the temperature of the protective frame remains below 95°C, which poses no additional thermal risk to the environment.
- Areas of Use
- Main Area of Use (Defense Industry): Submarine platforms. This is a vital component for ship and crew safety.
- Potential Other Areas:
- Hydrogen Security: All industrial areas where there is a risk of hydrogen accumulation, such as nuclear power plants, battery charging rooms, hydrogen production and storage facilities.
- Emission Control: Chemical and petrochemical plants where volatile organic compounds (VOCs) need to be removed.
- Catalytic Combustors: Other industrial processes requiring flameless heat generation or gas purification.
