Turkish Patent Institute published the patent application data for 2015. It was noteworthy that the provinces with a high number of patents were among the industrialized provinces with a high number of universities.
KOCAELI RANKED 5TH IN THE RANKINGS
Kocaeli, which ranked 6th with 168 applications in 2014, reached 209 applications and ranked 5th in the ranking.
The number of domestic patent applications increased by 13.39 percent compared to 2014, from 4,861 to 5,512.
In terms of applications, the Marmara Region took the lead as a region, tripling the Central Anatolia Region, which ranked second, and broke a record with 3,361 patent applications.
While the number of applications in 9 provinces exceeded 100, applications from Istanbul increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year and reached 2,399. Istanbul ranked first in this field, followed by Ankara with 636 applications and Bursa with 440 applications.
Last year, the number of provinces with no patent applications decreased by half compared to 2014. The number of provinces with less than 10 applications remained at 36.
In 2015, no patent applications were filed in Muş, Sinop, Ardahan and Iğdır, while one application each was filed in Amasya, Artvin, Erzincan, Kars, Siirt, Bayburt, Şırnak and Kilis.
