The '1st Good Environmental Status (GES) and Monitoring Program (MMP) Workshop' of the 'Project on Establishing Turkey's Marine Environment Strategy' supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and implemented by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) was held in Ankara on 26-27-28 March 2019.
The '1st Good Environmental Status (GES) and Monitoring Program (MMP) Workshop' of the 'Project on Establishing Turkey's Marine Environment Strategy', supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and implemented by TÜBİTAK MAM, was held at TÜBİTAK Mustafa İnan Conference Hall on 26-27-28 March 2019.
The meeting was attended by 99 participants from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Coast Guard Command, Metropolitan Municipalities, Department of Hydrography and Oceanography (SHODB), Universities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The three-day workshop started with the opening speech of Ahmet Varır, Head of Department of the General Directorate of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Afterwards, Project Coordinator Gülsen Avaz from TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE made presentations on the introduction of the project and the studies carried out and planned to be carried out so far; Aslı Süha Günay made presentations on the expectations from the stakeholders within the scope of the project and the working methods of the project working groups; Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çolpan Polat Beken made presentations on the first Assessment Reports, IAQ Definitions and Objectives within the scope of the project.
In the afternoon sessions, the technical working groups worked on the evaluation and revision of the initial reports with the group leaders in different halls. On the second day of the workshop, the technical working groups, together with the group leaders, worked on the revision of the IWR Definition and Objectives and the IP. On the last day of the workshop, work presentations were made by the technical working group leaders and contributions and evaluations were received through a question and answer session.
