A project will be carried out with DEMİRPOLAT on "Development of Cereal Based Infant Supplementary Food Formulations".
Supplementary foods, which have an important place in the nutrition of infants and young children, cannot be produced in our country and are imported from abroad. Today, there are commercially available follow-on milk, follow-on formula and cereal-based (wheat, oat, rice) supplementary foods enriched with nutrients such as vitamins and minerals for the nutrition of infants and young children. Since the grains that make up the main raw material in supplementary food formulations cannot be fully digested by infants, hydrolyzed flours produced by extrusion technique, which are easier to digest, are used. Since supplementary foods for infants and young children are not produced in Turkey, they are imported from abroad. According to 2016 data, the market volume of infant supplementary foods in Turkey exceeded 100 million TL. Despite the rapid growth in the market, Turkey's annual consumption per infant is 16 kg, well below the global average. This consumption is 40 kg in Poland, 176 kg in Spain and 187 kg in France. Although the market volume of supplementary foods, which have an important place in the growth and development of infants and young children, is increasing, they are not produced in our country. With this project, hydrolyzed flours, which constitute the main raw material in the production of supplementary foods, will be produced from organic cereals (wheat, oats and rice) and high value-added supplementary foods for infants and young children aged 6-36 months with cereal mixture-fruits in accordance with the limits specified in the Turkish Food Codex Communiqué on Infant and Young Child Supplementary Foods will be developed.
