TÜBİTAK MAM Material Institute Underwater Studies and MİLGEM 5-8 DSH Sonar System Briefing and Introduction Meeting was held at TÜBİTAK MAM on May 04, 2017.
The meeting, which was led by Prof. Dr. Metin USTA, Director of the TÜBİTAK MAM Materials Institute, was attended by representatives of the SSM Naval Vehicles and R&D Departments, ARMELSAN A.Ş., STM A.Ş., İstanbul Denizcilik A.Ş. and Sedef Gemi İnşaatı A.Ş. Following the presentations made by the officials, the Underwater Acoustic Laboratory was visited.
TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Materials Underwater Acoustics Laboratory was established for the national development of SONAR systems within the scope of the MİLGEM Program and was commissioned in 2008. In this context, the first national Sonar Array was developed by TÜBİTAK, acceptance tests were completed and successfully integrated into the Heybeliada Corvette in July 2009. As a result of the implementation of the national Sonar Transducer (TBT-01 Ver:1.01) in the inventory of the Turkish Navy, a significant contribution was made to the national economy.
The Advanced Acoustic Technologies Group, which was established within the TÜBİTAK MAM Materials Institute, continued to focus its efforts on the development of critical systems. Examples include the development of products for Mine Hunting Sonar Systems and Torpedo Systems.
In addition, the Underwater Acoustic Laboratory has established the first and only primary and secondary level calibration hardware infrastructure of reference hydrophones in our country and has become an accredited member of EURAMET in the field of underwater acoustics and provides calibration traceability within the country in the field of underwater acoustics as a Designated Institute. In this context, the Horizon 2020 project titled "Underwater Acoustic Calibration Standards for frequencies below 1 kHz (UNAC-LOW)", coordinated by Group Officer Dr. Alper Biber, has been brought to our country and the work continues with the project partnership of the UK, Denmark, Sweden and Italy. http://empir-unaclow.com/
The products developed in parallel with these studies are aimed to be used primarily on national platforms. It is planned to commercialize these and similar products, which are of critical importance, in order to both produce them domestically and contribute to the national economy. In this context, project-based collaborations are established with local companies and national product solutions are offered to companies.
