"Workshop on Prioritization of Problems, Identification of Potential Measures and Actions for Pollution Prevention/Control" within the scope of the "Project on Updating the National Action Plan for the Protection of Our Seas against Land-Based Pollutants" was held on 3-4 May 2017 at the meeting halls of TÜBİTAK Presidency/Ankara. The Workshop was attended by 100 participants from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, TÜBİTAK-MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, TurkStat, Ministry of Health, SHOD, universities, development agencies, NGOs and Coastal Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization and Metropolitan Municipalities in coastal provinces.
The workshop was organized by Mr. Murat Turan, Head of Marine and Coastal Management Department from the General Directorate of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. During the first day of the Workshop, presentations were made by officials from Bursa, Izmir, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipalities; General Directorate of İSTAÇ; Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock; and TÜRÇEV on one of the three main topics of the Project, "Studies on marine litter"; and the studies carried out within the scope of "Protected Areas in Coastal Areas and Vessel Traffic Intensity" were conveyed. On the same day, presentations were made by the Thematic Working Group Leaders on the draft results of the work on setting national targets; information was given on the working method and the documents to be used and "identification of potential measures" work was carried out together with the Thematic Working Groups.
On the second day of the Workshop, firstly, information was given on the work carried out on the identification of hotspots and then the participants were divided into "Urban / Municipal, Industrial and Agricultural Thematic Working Groups" according to their subjects and group work on "Identification of Actions for Pollution Prevention / Control" was carried out. The Thematic Working Groups were guided by the Group Leader of each area and the evaluations/suggestions made within the groups were recorded by the rapporteurs designated for each group.
The results of the Workshop on Prioritization of Issues, Identification of Potential Measures and Actions for Pollution Prevention/Control provide an important basis for the "Draft National Action Plan Stakeholder Workshop" planned to be held in September 2017 under the Project.
