The new target of the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) and Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TAI), which have carried out many successful works to develop our defence industry and systems, and especially to reduce our foreign dependency by increasing domestic production opportunities in this field, is the "Indigenous Helicopter Development Project", which will be carried out entirely with domestic design and domestic production. The team, which has successfully carried out aviation projects such as the ATAK helicopter and ANKA-S unmanned aerial vehicle production, which are well known to the public, aims to fly the "indigenous helicopter" in the 5-ton class, which will have both civilian and military certification, and which will be made entirely with domestic design and production, in 2018.
On September 10, 2014, SSM and TAI teams visited TÜBİTAK MAM as part of the "Indigenous Helicopter Development Project". In the meetings held, the issues that we can contribute to the Indigenous Helicopter Project were discussed, and information was given about our TÜBİTAK MAM infrastructure. Advanced materials development, including lightweight alloys and elastomers, and Material characterization studies, composite armor applications, radar absorber designs and material applications, and the development of a landing radar were discussed in detail.
