Seminar on Resource Efficiency in the Iron and Steel Industry

TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute organized "Resource Efficiency Training in Iron and Steel Sector" on November 13, 2014 in cooperation with Kocaeli Chamber of Industry within the scope of clean production activities and "Determination of Resource Efficiency Potential in Industry" project.

The training was held at Kocaeli Chamber of Industry with the participation of public institutions and universities such as Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Kocaeli University, Istanbul Technical University, Marmara University, Turkish Steel Producers Association and sector representatives.

In his opening speech, Memet B. TURABİ, Secretary General of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, emphasized that approximately 13 percent of Turkey's manufacturing industry is located around Kocaeli and that the basic metal sector is one of the sectors with high resource saving potential and strategic importance due to its production capacity and economic value within the manufacturing industry.

 

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Mehmet KİTİŞ, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, informed the participants about the structure, activities, clean production and resource efficiency activities of the institute.

During the training, information was given on legal regulations and concepts developed on resource efficiency in the world, international case studies on determining resource efficiency savings potential in the manufacturing industry, energy efficiency in the iron and steel sector and recycling of waste in the sector.
