Farooq HASSAN, Head of Department, Ministry of Aviation, Pakistan, Sabino Skandar JALLAL, Director General, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr. Imran KHAN, Director General, Geology Authority and Dr. Zahid RAFI, Meteorology Department, Pakistan visited Turkey between 19-23 October 2015 to review Turkey's geothermal infrastructure and discuss potential cooperation opportunities with TÜBİTAK MAM.
The delegation was received by TÜBİTAK MAM President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır TUNABOYLU on October 19. The importance given to the relations between the two countries was expressed and it was emphasized to increase joint studies. In the meeting held afterwards, Business Development Unit Manager Nuh YILMAZ informed the delegation about the activities carried out at the Marmara Research Center. During the visits to TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences and Energy Institute, the delegation was informed about the studies carried out on local seismology, ground positioning observation networks (GPS), geothermal resource exploration, biomass and energy production from geothermal resources.
On October 20, TÜBİTAK MAM officials visited MTA in Ankara, Turkey, which has been working on mapping active faults and geothermal resources in Turkey. The delegation was received by Dr. Bülent KALI, Deputy Director General of MTA, and the work carried out at the institution was explained.
On the other days of the visit, Turkey's leading Geothermal Power Plants in Denizli and Aydın were visited and technical examinations were made. The utilization of geothermal resources for energy production, home heating and greenhouse cultivation were examined on site.
The delegation left Turkey on October 23, 2015 after a 5-day visit.
