TÜBİTAK MAM President Tunaboylu said that nuclear energy has become widespread in the world, while renewable energy is one of the important solutions to global warming.

Speaking at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) Information Seminar held at TÜBİTAK MAM, Tunaboylu stated that thanks to the seminar, they came together with scientists working on nuclear issues and doyen of this subject.

Tunaboylu stated that very important scientific studies are carried out at CERN, which is the focus of European Union-centered studies.

Pointing out that the issue of nuclear energy has been on the agenda for a long time, Tunaboylu said that the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has been working on this issue for a long time.

Emphasizing that they have recently decided to focus on research on "Industry 4.0 and Nuclear Energy" as the main agenda item of TÜBİTAK, Tunaboylu continued as follows:

"Nuclear energy is becoming more and more widespread in the world, although some countries are seeing a decrease, such as Germany, and we know that Japan will start to open its power plants again. Because renewable energy is seen as one of the important solutions to global warming. In Turkey, we do not yet have a large-scale nuclear energy generating system in operation. There are two projects. We are actively involved in one of them. Our Institute of Earth Sciences is working in Sinop. What we want to do in the next period is to draw up a road map, work with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and as TÜBİTAK, especially MAM, to ensure that Turkey moves forward faster."

- "We are in a good position in Hydro Electric Power Plant technologies in renewable energy"-

Tunaboylu stated that many countries will make very serious investments in renewable energy in the next 10-20 years.

Stating that they have seen that many countries will invest much more in nuclear, Tunaboylu said

"Therefore, this issue is also important for us as a country with a current account deficit. We are in a good position in renewable hydroelectric power plant technologies, we are making serious production, and these are the subjects we are working on as MAM on thermal power plants. Apart from this, serious investments have started in wind energy. There are investments in solar energy in Turkey. However, more serious investments are planned in this technology. Very recently, our Minister of Energy went to China and held talks. Therefore, in terms of energy, of course, this has implications for health and other issues, it is a subject that feeds many technologies, when nuclear energy studies are carried out. We need a setup in such a way that we can establish this from start to finish. We think that we need to move faster in cooperation with the necessary institutions. The High Council for Science and Technology paves the way for this."

Tunaboylu added that they will use the information from the seminar in the nuclear roadmap they will prepare.

Afterwards, experts made presentations on "CERN, Industry and University Triangle", "Success examples of our companies at CERN" and "Business opportunities and tender announcements with CERN".
