With the project contract signed between TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and Malatya Metropolitan Municipality on August 10, 2021, the "Updating Strategic Noise Maps of Malatya Province and Creating Noise Reduction Action Plan" Project was initiated.
A total of 38 representatives from Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), Republic of Turkey General Directorate of State Railways, General Directorate of Highways, Battalgazi Municipality, Yeşilyurt Municipality and stakeholders involved in the project participated in the project coordination meeting held on September 21, 2022.
The opening speeches of the meeting were made by Cevdet Atalan, Deputy Secretary General of Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, Şaban Aşıcı, Head of Environmental Protection and Control Department, Mehmet Zeki Duman, Environmental Protection, Spraying and Climate Change Branch Manager, and Nuray Hüsmen, Modeling and Mapping Branch Manager of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Samet Feyyaz Hamamcı, Project Coordinator and Senior Researcher Samet Feyyaz Hamamcı made a presentation to the participants on behalf of TÜBİTAK MAM Climate Change and Sustainability Vice Presidency on environmental noise studies, environmental noise concepts, purpose, scope and importance of the project, work plan, stakeholders and beneficiaries, strategic noise mapping and noise mitigation action plan steps.
Within the scope of the project, within the scope of the principles and criteria specified in the By-Law on Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise and the relevant EU directive, the preparation of strategic noise maps of industrial facilities, entertainment places, highways and railways in Battalgazi and Yeşilyurt districts within the responsibility boundaries of Malatya Metropolitan Municipality has been completed and action plans for noise mitigation scenarios have been started.
