Joining Forces for Engine Center of Excellence Continues

The 9th Workshop of the Engine Center of Excellence, which will pave the way for the Turkish engine industry, was held at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE on August 19, 2016. The workshop was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Çelik, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan, Director General of Industry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Tunaboylu, President of TÜBİTAK MAM, and representatives of leading tractor, construction equipment and generator manufacturers.

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Tunaboylu, President of TÜBİTAK MAM, stated that the cooperation with the Engine Center of Excellence will carry the industry forward and that critical technologies related to the engine industry can be developed through this platform. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan, General Manager of Industry, presented the need for the Engine Center of Excellence with figures and emphasized the urgent need for Turkey to gain know-how in engine design. Zeynep Erkunt Armağan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Erkunt Tractor Industry A.Ş., one of the leading manufacturers in the sector, stated in her speech that the Engine Center of Excellence is extremely necessary for engine development studies in our country and expressed the problems they face in the sector with examples. She stated that in the engine R&D studies to be carried out in our country, technology and knowledge should be produced first, regardless of the feasibility of the product to be produced, and that there will definitely be a market for the product to be produced.

After the company representatives expressed their opinions, Deputy Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Çelik addressed the participants. Çelik stated that the Ministry will provide all necessary support to the Engine Center of Excellence and that the companies should get back to the Ministry as soon as possible regarding the engine types to be developed in the center, and expressed his satisfaction with the efficiency of the Engine Center of Excellence Workshop.

At the workshop, participants were informed about the stages and roadmap of the project by Murat Güler, one of the Lead Researchers of the TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institute.
