PROJECT FOR IDENTIFICATION OF NITRATE SENSITIVE AREAS AND PREPARATION OF ACTION PLANS

The II Working Group Meeting of the "Identification of Nitrate Sensitive Areas and Preparation of Action Plans Project" carried out by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and owned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry started on September 3, 2019 with the opening speech of Mr. Hasan ÖZLÜ, General Director of Agricultural Reform of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Starting on November 27, 2018, the project will identify nitrate sensitive areas in all river basins in Turkey and prepare action plans. At the meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ali Kılıç ÖZBEK, Head of the Department of Agricultural Environment and Natural Resources Protection, Dr. Selma AYAZ, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environmental Clean Production Institute, presented the progress made in the Gediz Basin, which is the pilot basin of the project. Within the scope of the studies carried out in the project, Geographical Information System studies, Water Quality Modeling studies, NHB determination studies in Ground and Surface waters were shared with the participants with presentations made by the project team. The studies carried out and to be carried out within the framework of the Good Agricultural Practices Code were shared by the expert academicians of Ankara University, Ege University, Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Ondokuz Mayıs University and Selçuk University.

In the Project Working Group, experts from the relevant departments of the General Directorate of Agricultural Reform, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Water Management, General Directorate of Livestock, General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, TAGEM, BÜGEM, officials from the relevant Provincial Directorates of Agriculture in the Gediz Basin, academicians from Ankara University, Ege University, Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Ondokuz Mayıs University and Selçuk University participated.

The meeting ended with questions from the participants and a general evaluation.
