ATHOM
Flow Forecasting and Basin Optimization Model
ATHOM is designed as a product that enables the forecasting of the flow to the water structures in the basin and accordingly the preparation of water budgets of the storage facilities and their operation on a daily, monthly and annual basis. This product includes flow forecasting models and basin optimization models. Flow Forecasting and Basin Optimization Model (ATHOM) was developed within the scope of the project.
Two forecasting models, short-term and long-term, have been developed within ATHOM. With short-term forecasts, flood risk can be identified up to 10 days in advance and the entire basin can be operated in the most efficient way without flooding the dam reservoir and river bed. Long-term forecasts make it possible to predict the flows that will enter the dam for up to 15 months and optimize energy production.
Technology / Product Overview
It is a holistic decision support system that estimates the water revenue of water structures such as single or consecutive dams in river basins, prepares water budgets of storage facilities and creates daily, monthly and annual operating strategies according to these budgets.

Technology / Product Features and Benefits
ATHOM produces high accuracy current forecasts. 2 km x 2 km resolution meteorological forecasts for up to 10 days can be provided as output. Point-based water flow forecasts can be presented at 200 m x 200 m resolution. Thanks to ATHOM, a total of 830 million cubic meters of water was saved in the Seyhan Basin for 4 years, with an annual average of at least % 5. Developed with artificial intelligence-based models, ATHOM, which has a dynamic and operational structure, ensures the most efficient use of water and maximum energy generation with an average forecast accuracy of up to % 95 in flow forecasts. With the right operating policies, it is possible to produce at least %5 more energy per year in energy production.

Short and Long Term Meteorological Forecasts
Basin-based meteorological forecasts are created for short and long term and presented to the user.
Current Forecasts
Short-term (3-10 days, hourly resolution) and Long-term (15 months, daily resolution) flow forecasts are created for each dam on a basin basis. While creating these forecasts, the most up-to-date models are used and continuously updated forecasts are presented to the user in an operational structure. Both point and probabilistic forecasts are generated and dam-based wet/dry season analyses are performed for the obtained flow forecasts.
Basin Optimization (Business)
Using dam-based flow forecasts, short-term (for flood purposes, up to 10 days) and long-term (for energy purposes, up to 15 months) forecasts are created and presented to the user. The entire basin is operated in cascade in accordance with the required constraints and the operating program information obtained is presented to the users.
Reporting of Results
All obtained flow forecasts and dam operation curves are presented to the user together with past year behaviors and basin-based aggregated reports are presented to the user quickly.
