Renewable Energy Research Group
Renewable Energy Research Group (AG) operates in two main areas: rehabilitation of hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy-smart grids in order to increase the use of renewable energy sources, which is one of the most important steps for green transformation and decarbonization of our cities in the world and Turkey.
Effective utilization of hydroelectric energy resources is of high importance in our country where the annual energy demand doubles every 10 years. In order to meet the increasing energy demand and reduce foreign dependence on fossil fuels, it is of utmost importance to acquire the capabilities for the construction of hydroelectric power plants and the rehabilitation of existing plants. Renewable Energy AG continues its activities to acquire local knowledge, capabilities and trained researchers within the scope of HEPP rehabilitation projects in force.
Renewable Energy Resources are becoming increasingly widespread due to their cost reduction to levels that can compete with traditional resources and their low negative impact on the environment. However, due to the uncertainties of these sources, production programs cannot be carried out with traditional methods and new types of networks and methods are needed. Renewable Energy AG examines the grid connection analysis and connection of renewable energy sources (especially Photovoltaic systems), smart grid structures that provide bidirectional data and energy transmission of these sources, including cyber security and communication standards concepts.
Pressure relief valves and frictional energy losses in drinking water networks, one of the focus areas of Renewable Energy AG, also constitute an important potential for hydroelectric power generation. Small-scale power plants on drinking water networks can provide benefits in terms of both energy generation and regulation of network pressure. Renewable Energy AG is working to unlock this hidden hydroelectric potential and increase digitalization in water supply systems.
