TKİ Project
Project Summary
Maintenance and Repair of TKİ Reactive Power Compensation (RGK) Systems Project
Project Summary
The purpose of this project is to provide maintenance, repair and troubleshooting services for three Reactive Power Compensation (RPC) plants and their remote monitoring system, which are currently owned by the Turkish Coal Authority (TKİ), installed and modernized by TÜBİTAK MAM and have been in operation since September 2001.
Within the scope of the project:
- Çan 34.5 kV RGK facility within Çan Lignites Operation Directorate (Çanakkale/Çan),
- Annual periodic maintenance of Işıklar 34.5 kV RGK and Deniş 34.5 kV RGK facilities of Ege Lignites Operation Directorate (Manisa/Soma) is carried out.
In addition, maintenance and repair of the remote monitoring systems of these facilities are also within the scope of the project. Effective solutions are provided with remote or on-site intervention in case of malfunctions that may occur in the facilities.
Thanks to these systems developed and regularly maintained by TÜBİTAK MAM, the impact of power quality problems caused by electric excavation machines operating in coal fields on the electricity grid is prevented; thus, the customer institution is protected from fines due to excessive reactive power usage and can supply its loads with lower losses and high efficiency.
Within the scope of the project, periodic maintenance of the relevant RGK facilities is carried out twice a year, and remote monitoring and fault response activities are carried out uninterruptedly.
Technical Details
Each RGK plant consists of a three-phase reactive power compensation system based on thyristor-controlled reactor (TCR) technology operating at 1 kV level. These systems are connected to the grid at 34.5 kV level and are equipped with tuned fixed shunt harmonic filters on the 1 kV side to suppress switching induced harmonics. The reactive power generation capacity of the plants varies between 2000 kVAr capacitive and 1250 kVAr inductive.
Project Output
TKI Technology
Within the scope of the project, maintenance and remote monitoring works of these three RGK facilities, which were previously developed and modernized by TÜBİTAK MAM, are ongoing and the first periodic maintenance operations have been successfully completed. Thanks to these facilities, the relevant production sites of TKİ can continue their operations without being affected by penalties due to excessive reactive power consumption.
