İsmail Aktaş, Head of Transportation Vehicles Department of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, General Directorate of Industry, and the accompanying delegation visited TÜBİTAK MAM. In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçaslan, President of TÜBİTAK MAM, the delegation was informed about the working areas, infrastructure and projects carried out by the Center. In the field of railway transportation vehicles, the E1000 and E5000 electric national mainline locomotive projects being carried out by the TÜBİTAK MAM Energy Institute and the turbine blade and high temperature materials projects being carried out by the Materials Institute were shared with the delegation.
In his speech at the meeting, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçaslan, President of TÜBİTAK MAM, said that they have successfully completed the E-1000 national electric locomotive project and that they aim to complete the E-5000-Main Line National Electric Locomotive Project in a short time. Kılıçaslan pointed out that a team of 162 people, 22 of whom are academicians and 140 engineers, are working on the project.
The locomotive, which will be produced by TÜLOMSAŞ, a subsidiary of TCDD General Directorate, in partnership with TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center and Istanbul Technical University, will have a modern AC drive system and 5000 kilowatt power to meet the needs of TCDD. It will be capable of speeds up to 160 kilometers per hour and its prototype will be produced with a design that meets the requirements of the European Interoperability Regulation. When the E-5000 national electric locomotive production is completed, it will be the most powerful railway vehicle designed and manufactured in Turkey thanks to its traction and control system.
