A "Final Evaluation Meeting" was held on November 24, 2017 at İzmir Ramada Plaza Hotel, hosted by OSİB and TÜBİTAK MAM in order to inform the stakeholders about the studies carried out within the scope of the Project for the Implementation of the Daily Maximum Total Load Approach in the Gediz Basin, to transfer the experience and technical know-how gained in the project, and to raise awareness on inter-institutional cooperation.

The meeting, which started with the opening speeches of Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and Bilal Dikmen, Assistant General Director of Water Management, was attended by approximately 100 representatives from Izmir, Manisa, Uşak and Kütahya Deputy Governors, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Municipalities, Water and Sewerage Administrations, Universities and Industrial Facilities.

The objective of the GMTY Project is to determine the total allowable pollutant load by pollutant in the receiving environment for point and diffuse sources based on the existing water quality of the Gediz Basin. With this approach, it is aimed to determine the total loads that should be present in the receiving environment on the basis of parameters, as well as the distribution of these loads between sources, discharge limits for point sources and load reduction measures for diffuse sources. The project was carried out in a 2-year period between June 2015 and June 2017.

In the presentation made by Dr. Hande Haksevenler, TÜBİTAK MAM Project Coordinator, the scope of the project, the monitoring studies carried out and the main outputs of the project were explained. In the second part, the details of the studies carried out to determine the receiving environment-based discharge standards for pollutants, the methodology applied and the road map proposed for our country in the short, medium and long term were informed. The meeting ended with the evaluation part where the questions of the participants about the project were answered and the contributions that can be provided in the future studies to be carried out together for implementation were discussed.
