The VIth Joint Scientific Workshop between TÜBİTAK and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) was held on March 17, 2016 in Smolenice, Slovakia.
Within the scope of the visit, the 15-member Turkish delegation consisting of representatives and researchers from TÜBİTAK Presidency and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) was first received by our Ambassador to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, Ms. Gülhan ULUTEKİN. Gülhan ULUTEKİN in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Following this courtesy visit, the delegation proceeded to the historic SAS Congress Center in Smolenice.
On 17 March 2016, the Workshop was held with opening speeches by Dr. Eva Majkova, Vice President of SAS, Dr. Jozef Sestak, Consul General of Slovakia in Istanbul, Dr. Orkun Hasekioğlu, Vice President of TÜBİTAK, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Tunaboylu, President of MAM, and Ms. Gülhan Ulutekin, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Slovakia. Following the opening speeches of Ms. Gülhan Ulutekin, MAM introductory movie was watched and SAS and TÜBİTAK General Presentations were made. During the day-long thematic sessions, researchers from both countries working in the fields of Materials Sciences, Biopharmaceuticals and Food carried out sessions to identify priority areas under these headings and to reveal joint project ideas.
Part of the delegation visited the Slovak Nuclear Power Plant Research Institute (VÚJE) in the city of Tirnava during a field visit organized simultaneously with the thematic meetings.
During the closing session, joint proposals and workshop results were presented to the participants and the final declaration was signed by the heads of delegations. Accordingly, an agreement was reached between the two institutions on the 2016 4th thematic call, Horizon 2020, Era-Net, participation of industrial organizations, exchange of doctoral students and cooperation between TÜBİTAK-SAS-VUJE in nuclear energy technologies.
Within the scope of the joint scientific workshops, which were initiated in 2002 with bilateral cooperation with the contributions of the two institutions as well as the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Istanbul, and which have been organized since 2010, decisions are taken on the course of cooperation between the parties and the topics of the thematic cooperation call to be opened in the same year.
