The Inaugural Meeting of the "Turkey Marine Environment Strategy Development Project", supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and implemented by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), was held in Ankara on December 19, 2018.
The Inaugural Meeting of the "Establishment of Turkey's Marine Environment Strategy Project" supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and carried out by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) was held on December 19, 2018 at the Feza Gürsey Conference Hall of TÜBİTAK Presidency.
The meeting was attended by 127 participants from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Coast Guard Command, coastal governorships and metropolitan municipalities, TurkStat, SHODB, universities and NGOs.
The Opening Meeting started with the opening speeches of Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE and Banu Behram Kuran, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. In the opening speeches; the importance, purpose and scope of the Project as well as the duties and responsibilities of the stakeholder institutions and organizations were underlined in order to ensure that the Project can be realized as planned.
Afterwards, Huri Eyüboğlu, Branch Manager of the Marine and Coastal Management Department of the General Directorate of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and Serap Kantarlı, Branch Manager of the Laboratory Measurement and Monitoring Department of the General Directorate of Environmental Monitoring and Inspection made presentations on the needs for which the project was initiated and the activities carried out within the scope of the project. These presentations were followed by a presentation by Gülsen Avaz, TÜBİTAK MAM MTUE Project Manager, on the introduction of the project and the activities carried out and planned to be carried out so far.
In the afternoon session, Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çolpan Polat Beken made a presentation on the implementation of the "Marine Strategy Framework Directive" in EU countries and the existing capacity in Turkey. Afterwards, Aslı Süha Günay from TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE made a presentation on the contributions expected from the stakeholders within the scope of the project, project working groups and activities.
At the end of the meeting, a question and answer session was held with the participants, where questions about the project were answered and mutual contributions were evaluated.
