TÜBİTAK MAM, WHERE SCIENCE TURNS INTO ENTERTAINMENT, WAS AT THE 8TH KONYA SCIENCE FESTIVAL

TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) participated in the 8th Konya Science Festival, Turkey's largest Science Festival, held at Konya Science Center between 07-10 October 2021.

The festival at Konya Science Center, the first Science Center built with the support of TÜBİTAK, was held with great interest and excitement. In line with the National Technology Move, TÜBİTAK MAM, which contributes significantly to increasing qualified human resources, attracted the attention of visitors with its experimental activities in different fields.

In the field of Gene Engineering and Biotechnology; In the event where various living and fixed materials were examined and their microstructures were explained in the Binocular light and macro lens microscope with the Application of Different Materials in the Microscope, visitors were informed about the working logic and examination principles of the microscope.

In the field of food; Lactic Acid Bacteria were demonstrated under the microscope.

In the field of Polar Research, along with the broadcasting of the newly completed polar documentary on the Main Stage, the Polar Exhibition Consisting of Photographs Taken by Turkish Scientists at the Poles, Clothes Specially Sewn for the Poles worn by Turkish Researchers at the Poles, Penguin Height Measurement Ruler, Penguin and Polar Bear Mascots and Polar Creatures Matching Game were exhibited.

In the field of Chemical Technology; Fingerprint Powder Experiment was carried out.

In the field of Earth and Marine Sciences; Instant Measurement of Earth Movements with Seismometer, Resistance of Buildings Against Earthquakes, Response of Buildings to Earthquake Waves According to the Height of Buildings were explained with on-site experiments.

In the field of Environment and Clean Production; Wastewater Filtration Game, Recycling Game, Detection of Microplastics were realized.

In the field of Materials Science; Sensing with Quartz Crystal, Solar Panel Working Concept Demonstration, Electricity Generation with Piezoelectric Materials were demonstrated with on-site experiments.

In the field of energy; with the Fuel Cell Training Kit Experimental Demonstration, electricity was produced with fuel cells using hydrogen and methanol produced from sodium boron hydride and its rotation of a propeller was demonstrated. Students were informed about fuel cells, alternative, zero-low emission power sources. Boron-powered vehicle "Boren" was exhibited.

At the end of his visit to Konya Science Festival, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank used Boren, a boron-powered vehicle developed by TÜBİTAK MAM, together with Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay.
