TÜBİTAK MAM Presented Next Generation Hydropower Approaches

TÜBİTAK MAM shared his views on digitalization, innovative hydropower applications and the water-energy nexus at the Eurelectric Turkey interview.

Organized by Eurelectric Turkey Hydro Group on May 26, 2025, the online talk titled "Next Generation Hydropower: Digitalization, Innovative Applications and the Water-Energy Link" shed light on the future of the hydropower sector. Moderated by Elif Erin, Vice President of Eurelectric Turkey Hydro Group, the event was attended by Dr. Doğan Gezer, Coordinator of the Vice Presidency of Energy Technologies at TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (TÜBİTAK MAM).

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Doğan Gezer emphasized the impact of digitalization on operational efficiency and flexibility in hydroelectric power plants and shared recent developments in artificial intelligence-based monitoring systems, data-driven decision-making processes and innovative turbine technologies. He also stated that with the proper management of the water-energy nexus, both sustainability in energy production and contribution to the fight against climate change can be achieved.

The interview, which attracted great interest of the participants, was completed with an interactive question and answer session and a short evaluation survey. It was stated that Eurelectric Turkey Hydro Group will continue such activities aiming to disseminate information sharing and technological developments in the hydroelectric sector.
