TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) participated in the NADMEX - Disaster Management Fair and Summit, organized by Istanbul Technical University and TG Expo, with its advanced technologies developed for disaster management and earthquake studies. While this year's summit focused on the development of national and international strategies in the fight against disasters, TÜBİTAK MAM's projects attracted great interest. Throughout the exhibition, innovative solutions in the field of disaster management were exhibited, while the use of effective technologies in earthquake preparedness and response processes was discussed.
TÜBİTAK MAM Stand Out with Innovative Earthquake Solutions at NADMEX Disaster Management Exhibition
TÜBİTAK MAM took part in the event with three important technologies developed to combat various disasters, especially earthquakes:
The Under Rubble Human Detection System was developed to speed up the detection of people trapped under rubble after a possible earthquake or disaster and to ensure that rescue teams focus on the right points. This system plays a critical role in the life-saving processes of people under rubble. Thanks to its user-friendly and portable structure, it can be quickly installed and used by emergency response teams.
The Post-Earthquake Emergency Observation Research (DEPAR) project was developed to make observation processes effective by closely monitoring the aftershocks that occur after large earthquakes (M>6) and to guide emergency interventions by revealing the danger in the affected areas. DEPAR aims to increase the accuracy of observations and decisions to be made in the first hours after an earthquake.
Finally, the Soil Classification & Seismic Hazard Assessment Program for Provinces Located Along the DAFZ aims to increase resilience against earthquakes by predicting the earthquake hazard and possible damage distribution based on soil characteristics in critical provinces in Turkey's earthquake zone. With this program, a scientific database is created to enable local governments to make faster and more informed decisions in disaster management, urban transformation and urban planning processes.
These advanced technologies, which TÜBİTAK MAM exhibited at the NADMEX Exhibition, provide faster and more effective response to earthquakes and other disasters, while also constituting an important resource to strengthen pre-disaster strategic preparations. Considering the fact that Turkey is located in an earthquake zone, the importance of these projects at national and international level was particularly emphasized during the event. In addition, during the sessions held throughout the event, it was expressed that scientific research and technological developments in the field of disaster management should be disseminated to a wider audience and cooperation should be increased.
