A cooperation protocol was signed between TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and Zero Waste Foundation for environmental sustainability goals. The protocol was signed by Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy, President of TÜBİTAK MAM, and Samed Ağırbaş, President of Zero Waste Foundation, at a ceremony held at TÜBİTAK MAM Headquarters.
The Zero Waste Foundation works to ensure that the Zero Waste Project becomes permanent and to support the adoption of this approach throughout society. The Foundation carries out training, research and project activities to raise awareness on zero waste, encourage the sharing of knowledge and experience, and contribute to the dissemination of practices. Within the scope of the signed protocol, it is aimed to implement Zero Waste practices in the polar regions, which are most affected by global climate change. TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute, which coordinates Turkey's polar research, together with the Zero Waste Foundation, aims to develop environmentally friendly practices such as reducing environmental impacts in scientific and logistics infrastructures used in polar expeditions, separating waste at source and activating recycling processes. In this way, it is aimed to adopt the Zero Waste approach in these sensitive regions where human impact is minimal.
The cooperation is not limited to field practices, but also includes the support of scientific and academic research on zero waste. With the support to be provided to projects to be carried out by universities, research centers and young researchers; it is envisaged to contribute to innovative studies in the fields of waste management, environmental sustainability and circular economy. The collaboration between TÜBİTAK MAM and Zero Waste Foundation aims to contribute to strengthening Turkey's scientific capacity in environmental issues and increasing its visibility in international environmental policies.
