Chairman and Secretary General of the Board of Directors of the Construction Materials Manufacturers' Association of Turkey (İMSAD), Director of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Environment and Clean Production Institute (ÇTÜE) Dr. Selma Ayaz and Lead Researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesimi Özkurt visited Deputy Minister of Environment and Urbanization Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Birpınar on 3 January 2019.
During the visit, information was given about the work carried out with IMSAD on "Design and Implementation of Domestic Noise Barrier Systems for Environmental Noise Control". In particular, the importance of "Implementation of Barrier Systems to be Developed with Domestic Facilities for Noise Barrier Systems", which is included in the I. and II. 100-Day Execution Programs, was emphasized by both parties and both Institutions stated that they will take a leading role.
With the EU Environmental Directive and the regulation published by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization (MoEU) in 2010, the concept, management and enforcement of environmental noise were defined. However, since the municipalities were not able to carry out the various studies they were required to complete with sufficient speed and scope, "Strategic Noise Maps in 36 Provinces" were prepared in total with the project signed between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and TÜBİTAK MAM. In addition, "Necessary Source Based Noise Inventory Infrastructure" was prepared for the preparation of Noise Maps in 41 provinces. By the end of 2019; Noise Map of 20 provinces for which Inventory Infrastructure has been prepared will be completed.
TÜBİTAK MAM METU aims to "Develop Domestic Noise Barrier Systems" to be used in the development of noise mitigation and control technologies within the scope of the needs in the provinces where Environmental Noise Management studies and current situation analyses have been completed. Within the scope of current situation analyses on environmental noise, strategic noise maps are being prepared in residential areas. In addition, following these projects, scenarios are developed and model designs are made in case various materials are used for noise mitigation. These projects are carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and municipalities.
In 2018, TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE started working within Türkiye İMSAD to discuss possible collaborations. As a result of the meetings held;
- Design and implementation of traffic-induced environmental noise control systems in cities
- Reduction of receptor-oriented environmental noise exposure
It was also decided to develop cooperation on the issues.
Considering the priorities of our country; within the scope of "Development of Domestic Noise Barrier Systems", a cooperation model for "Design and Implementation of Traffic-Borne Environmental Noise Control Systems in Cities" has been established and work has started in this direction.
