Although our country ranks 8th in the world in terms of steel production in terms of quantity, production is mostly composed of low-quality commercial products. In 2014, the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology initiated efforts to increase the competitiveness of our steel industry. In addition, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu shared with the public the transformation package, which includes structural reforms with "1350 action plans under 25 headings" that will pave the way for the transformation of the Turkish economy and ensure strong and balanced growth. The two strategic targets set for our steel industry in these efforts are the establishment of production technologies from ore instead of scrap and increasing the amount of value-added products.

ASİLÇELİK is one of the few facilities in our country that produces high quality steels. It has been decided to cooperate between ASİLÇELİK and TÜBİTAK MAM Materials Institute to further increase the added value of the product by improving the existing product range and to produce high quality steels and stainless steels that our country needs in the defense and manufacturing industry. With the results to be obtained from this cooperation, many types of steel that are currently met through imports will be produced with national facilities.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Kerim DERVİŞOĞLU, Member of the Board of Directors of ASİLÇELİK and Member of TÜBİTAK Science Board, Mr. Osman KILAVUZ, General Manager of ASİLÇELİK, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat MAKARACI, Vice President of Strategy and Technology Development of TÜBİTAK MAM, and managers and researchers of our Materials Institute.
