On July 07, 2015, a meeting on "Powdery Mildew Disease in Hazelnut" was held at Giresun Commodity Exchange. The meeting was led by TÜBİTAK MAM Gene Engineering and Biotechnology Institute (GMBE) and Food Institute (GE) and attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Giresun Commodity Exchange, General Secretariat, authorized persons from Gaziosmanpaşa University, Giresun Hazelnut Research Institute and Giresun Provincial Directorate of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.

Prof. Dr. Cesarettin ALAŞALVAR and TÜBİTAK MAM GMBE Manager Mr. Prof. Dr. Şaban TEKİN made their speeches on powdery mildew disease fungus, which significantly threatens the yield of hazelnuts, and the fight against this factor. Mr. Prof. Dr. Şaban TEKİN emphasized in his speech that the fight against powdery mildew disease should be carried out under three main headings. They stated that it is important to develop biological control for this disease, as well as chemical control based on the development of original molecules and the development of resistant lines / varieties through breeding studies to be carried out in hazelnut. Gaziosmanpaşa University faculty members Mr.. Prof. Dr. Yusuf YANAR and Prof. Dr. Ahmet KARADAĞAĞ. Prof. Dr. Ahmet KARADAĞ made a presentation on chemical control and conveyed information.

Mr. Gökhan KIZILCI, Director of Giresun Hazelnut Research Institute of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey, and Dr. Arzu SEZER gave information about the studies carried out in their institutes regarding the disease. The first meeting of the project on "Combating Powdery Mildew Disease in Hazelnut" was held with the aim of developing domestic preparations and molecules for biological and chemical control with the participation of TÜBİTAK MAM Gene Engineering and Biotechnology Institute, Food Institute, Gaziosmanpaşa University, Giresun Commodity Exchange, Giresun Hazelnut Research Institute, Agricultural Research Institutes of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.
