TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan Ends

TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan, which was organized in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, ended after 4 full days. TÜBİTAK's stand at the festival, where TÜBİTAK was a stakeholder, attracted attention with its activities, science shows and exhibited products. Dozens of science shows were held for 4 days and activities were organized in many workshops.

Pilotless Flight Apparatus (PUA) Competition

The 2nd and 3rd winners of the Pilotless Flight Apparatus (PUA) competition organized by TÜBİTAK also received their awards.

Third place in the PUA Competition was Hərbi Air Qüvvələri from Ali Hərbi Məktəb University. The second place of the competition was SaWar team from Turkish Aeronautical Association University. The winners received their awards from Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, TEKNOFEST Chairman Selçuk Bayraktar and TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal.

The Pilotless Flight Apparatus (PUA) Competition, organized for the first time within the scope of TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan under the coordination of TÜBİTAK and Azercosmos Company, was held on May 24, 2022 at Hacıkabul Airport.

Organized for the first time this year, the competition was opened only to students studying at higher education institutions in Turkey and Azerbaijan. A total of 156 teams, 104 of which were from Turkey, applied to the competition, which aims to increase students' interest in space and aviation and air vehicles and to provide students with basic flight knowledge and skills in this field.

In TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan PUA Competition, the young people of the two brotherly countries, who formed 10 Azerbaijani and 4 Turkish teams, experienced the excitement of competing in the skies of Azerbaijan with the UAVs they designed.

In the PUA Competition held at Hacıkabul Airport, teams performed tasks such as reconnaissance, mapping, target shooting, payload carrying, fire extinguishing and destruction with their UAVs.

The 14 finalist teams participated in TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan, which will be held at the Baku Crystal Hall campus between May 26-29, 2022, and exhibited their UAVs to visitors at the stands allocated to them in the hall in Baku Crystal Hall.

The first prize was 4 thousand dollars, the second prize was 2 thousand dollars and the third prize was 1 thousand dollars.

INFORMATION and INFORMATION SECURITY ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES RESEARCH CENTER (BİLGEM)

During the 4-day festival, the technologies developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM were met with great interest by the visitors.

Participants who searched for metal souvenir coins in a special sandbox with the foldable metal mine detector "OZAN" developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM both had fun and experienced the advanced technologies developed.

With the development of virtual reality with the advancement of technology and the concept of Metaverse starting to enter our lives, Metaverse was chosen as the main theme of the activities at the booth in order to present the work done in this field to the participants and to provide an experience. Participants who created their own avatars with the "Metaverse Avatar Creation Booth" had their photos taken with their avatars and had fun.

"Haptics Technology", a branch of science that aims to technically answer the question "Can we feel real-life objects and surfaces by touching the relevant images?", made its first appearance at a festival. Thanks to the "Doku-Bul Screen" developed as a result of intensive studies in recent years, the participants, who could feel the surfaces of real objects by touching their pictures on the screen, experienced the feeling of touching a real crocodile by touching the back of a crocodile; they felt the mountains, rivers and plains by touching the physical map of Azerbaijan.

TÜBİTAK SCIENCE AND SOCIETY DIRECTORATE (BİTO)

Within the scope of BİTO, science centers took their place in TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan with colorful workshops and events. Antalya Science Center, Bilim Üsküdar, Elazığ Science Center, Kayseri Science Center, Kocaeli Science Center, Konya Science Center and DENEYAP Technology Workshops together with Antalya Science Center appealed especially to children.

With the Advanced Robotics Project Festival, students created projects by combining the knowledge they learned in Design and Production, Robotics and Coding, and Advanced Robotics trainings.

With the activity "Creating My Own Molecule", they learned what kind of atoms are in the structures of molecules and created their own molecules with atoms with their hand skills.

Activities such as Robo-Arena event, solar observation, painter robot and plus-minus hand in hand and science demonstrations took place. Within the scope of design and production, wood was shaped using a lathe and a bristle saw machine. Visitors are informed about machining. The "Hydrophobic Hands" activity attracted the attention of visitors by using the water-repellent property of aerogel.

With the activity called Snap Snap Circuits, children learned about electrical circuits and the currents that can build more than one electrical circuit, and created their own circuits with their hand skills. The projects made by the students were exhibited in the field and information was transferred.

TUBITAK Popular Science Books, 100 different books from different age groups were sold and promoted. In addition, popular science magazines such as Bilim ve Teknik, Bilim Çocuk and Meraklı Minik were given as gifts to the readers.

TÜBİTAK MARMARA RESEARCH CENTER (MAM)

MAM added color to TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan with interesting activities in the field of life sciences.

With the Application of Different Materials in the Microscope activity, various living and fixed materials will be examined in the binocular light and macro lens examination microscope and their microstructures will be explained. In addition, information was given about the working logic and examination principles of the microscope for enthusiasts.

Lactic Acid Bacteria were demonstrated under the microscope with the Lactic Acid Bacteria Under the Microscope activity.

In the Experimental Event with Fingerprint Powders, a practical demonstration was made to some of the visitors with magnetic fingerprint powder within the scope of TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan. R&D activities for the production in Turkey of consumables (fingerprint powders, sprays, brushes and transfer foils) needed by the Turkish National Police (TNP) for crime scene investigation were completed. The 2014 and 2015 needs of the EGM within the scope of these products were produced by TÜBİTAK MAM Material Technologies. Technology transfers of fingerprint powders, sprays and fiberglass fingerprint brushes were made to domestic companies. Penguin Mascot accompanied the activities at TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan.

With the Polar Creatures Matching Game, polar creatures were introduced to children through matching and memory games.

Activities were also organized to raise awareness on Climate Change and Sustainability. A competition was held with teams consisting of young people and the activity of Instant Measurement of Earth Movements with Seismometer was carried out.

With the Methanol Fuel Cell Training Kit, the working principle was explained by filling the cell with methanol solution.

With the Boron Fuel Cell Training Kit, sodium boron hydride was mixed with water and the hydrogen gas produced by preparing the solution was converted into electricity in the fuel cell.

R/V TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Ship model and Space Qualified Solar Panel were exhibited at TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan.

DEFENSE INDUSTRY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (TÜBİTAK-SAGE)

TÜBİTAK SAGE also took its place as a stakeholder in TEKNOFEST AZERBAIJAN, which will be held in Baku Crystal Hall between May 26-29, 2022.

The modular guided munition family KUZGUN met with enthusiasts at the stand of SAGE, which plans to organize technology workshops for children and young people, as well as exhibiting ammunition systems developed locally and indigenously by Turkish engineers. The Rocket Model Workshop and VR Virtual Reality Experience activities also appealed to science lovers.

The Rocket Model Workshop also welcomed visitors with the aim of introducing children and young people in the 6-14 age group to rocket science and teaching them the subcomponents that make up a rocket.

The VR Virtual Reality Experience, where the first firing test of Bozdoğan, one of Turkey's first national air missiles developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE, successfully hit the target from an F-16 fighter jet, will be shown with virtual reality glasses, and the experience of flying side by side with our fighter pilot with a 360-degree view from the cockpit and watching a successful test firing, also provided unforgettable moments for the visitors.

TUBU̇TAK NATIONAL OBSERVATORY (TUG)

TUG took its place at TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan with an observation event with the solar telescope. With the telescope with a special filter, spots and explosions on our star, the Sun, were observed. Visitors also had short conversations with expert astronomers about the topics they were curious about.

TÜBİTAK TEKNOFEST left Azerbaijan leaving unforgettable traces.
