SEMINAR ON RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN AUTOMOTIVE AND SUB-INDUSTRY

"Resource Efficiency Seminar in Automotive and Supply Industry" was held on June 04, 2015 in cooperation with Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KOSANO) and TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute.

Representatives of the General Directorate of Renewable Energy, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, East Marmara Development Agency and representatives/officials of various companies participated in the seminar held in the Conference Hall of TOSB Automotive Supply Industry Specialized Organized Industrial Zone Directorate Building.

In the opening speech of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Mehmet KİTİŞ, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, informed the participants about the structure, studies and activities of the Institute. In his speech, he emphasized that joint projects can be carried out with the public and private sector and that the Institute is ready for cooperation. Mr. KİTİŞ stated that it is very important for the Cleaner Production Strategic Business Unit, which has undertaken the task of National Cleaner Production Center, to conduct cleaner production studies for industrial enterprises within the scope of this task and to organize seminars and trainings to raise the awareness of industrialists in order to spread the concept of cleaner production.

Following the opening speech, Mr. Volkan VARAL from TOFAŞ Turkish Automobile Factory presented "Sustainable Production Approach in the Automotive Sector". Volkan VARAL from TOFAŞ Turkish Automobile Factory shared the efficiency studies carried out within the scope of sustainability in the production facilities and the practices for waste reduction with his presentation on "Sustainable Production Approach in the Automotive Sector".

Mr. Cengizhan ÇIRAK from AUTOLIV explained their work on "Reducing Machine Operating Costs and Reducing Scrap in Sewing Process" for which they received the First Prize in the Large Enterprises category within the scope of Productivity Week 2015.

In the 2nd session of the seminar, Ms. Meral TURAN AKIRMAK from the Automotive Industry Association made a presentation on "The Current Situation of the Automotive Sector in Turkey and the Studies on Fuel Consumption in Vehicles and Engines" and talked about the change in resource consumption and greenhouse gas emission levels in the automotive sector in Turkey over the years and compared the current data with EU countries.

As the last speaker of the seminar, Mr. Sacit TEKİN from BRISA BRIDGESTONE Plant presented "Sustainable Production Practices" and explained BRISA's managerial sustainability approach and the activities carried out within this scope.
