Research Management Skills Training Held at TÜBİTAK MAM Under the Horizon Europe SMART4ENV Project

The first phase of the training series organized within the scope of the SMART4ENV project, coordinated by TÜBİTAK MAM, has been completed. With the aim of strengthening internal research management capacity, the event addressed topics such as KPI development, intellectual property rights processes, international cooperation management, and the alignment of EU project processes.

An important training program was carried out within the scope of the Horizon Europe project SMART4ENV, titled "Smart Environmental Technologies for Climate Challenges," supported by the European Commission and coordinated by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM). The first phase of the expert training program on "Developing Research Management Skills," which aims to strengthen internal research management capacity in order to increase TÜBİTAK MAM's participation in Horizon Europe and other international programs, was conducted in person in collaboration with TÜBİTAK MAM and SITES (Sustainable Innovation Technology Services Ltd.). The first phase of the training program addressed critical topics such as institutional strategy and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) development, intellectual and industrial property rights processes, resource and infrastructure management for international collaborations, communication, and stakeholder engagement. In addition, the alignment of internal processes for pre- and post-grant EU project processes was examined in detail. The event featured case-based evaluations and intensive brainstorming sessions, with presentations by experts Leonardo Piccinetti and Irina Vitchinka.

The second phase of the training series will be held online between January 12 and 20, 2026. Topics covered in the second phase will include mechanisms for supporting researchers and project managers, Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) and industry collaboration, monitoring, reporting, impact assessment, and sustainability in EU projects.
