PROJECTS FOR USEFUL PRODUCTS FROM CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS WERE DISCUSSED

Sevda USALP, Deputy Secretary General of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, and the accompanying delegation visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center to discuss project ideas for the management of construction debris waste and obtaining useful products from waste. In the meeting chaired by Dr. Mert AKEL, Deputy Head of Materials Technologies, discussions were held on how to carry out the cleaning of debris and ruins in the city after the earthquake that occurred on February 6.

During the visit, the projects carried out on useful products that can be obtained from construction demolition waste and the ideas obtained from these projects were shared. Potential collaborations on hydrogen energy were also discussed. Discussions were held on how construction debris can be utilized without harming the environment and how useful products can be obtained in this process.

Among the studies carried out at TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, especially the projects on brick and cement production were discussed. Discussions were held on how materials obtained from construction demolition waste can be used in such production and how a sustainable approach can be adopted.

During part of the visit, the Concrete Laboratory, Building Materials Laboratory, Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Laboratory and Biodegradability Laboratories were visited. During these inspections, the visitors had the opportunity to learn about the existing technologies and the research conducted.

The visit and discussions provided a platform to build knowledge and collaborations that will help shape future projects and take important steps on how construction demolition waste can be utilized without harming the environment.
