The closing workshop of the project titled "Determination of Usage Criteria of Products Recovered from Construction and Demolition Wastes" supported by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and carried out by TÜBİTAK MAM Materials Institute was held on May 13, 2015 at Pendik Green Park Hotel.
Within the scope of the "Urban Transformation Project" initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, it is aimed to utilize 500 million tons of construction and demolition waste that may be generated until 2023 in different areas of use, and to utilize the wastes in various concrete products, asphalt layers, brick and cement areas and to bring them into the economy.
The workshop aimed to bring together the relevant institutions on urban transformation and was attended by the relevant ministry units from the public sector, Metropolitan Municipalities, Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization, Provincial and District Municipalities, Water and Sewerage Administrations, Professional and Non-Governmental Organizations, University and private sector managers and personnel.
The event started with the opening speeches of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat MAKARACI, Vice President of TUBITAK Marmara Research Center and Mustafa Tahsin BADEM, Deputy General Manager of Infrastructure and Urban Transformation Services, and the project coordinator Dr. Mustafa KARA and the project stakeholder organizations (İSTON A.Ş., İSFALT A.Ş., İSTAÇ A.Ş., AKÇANSA A.Ş.) made presentations on each product and provided information about the project results.
TÜBİTAK MAM has an awarding system that is organized regularly every year. In this context, the most successful researcher and team, innovation, technology development, research support and cooperation awards are given. Due to the initiation of the project on the recovery of construction and demolition wastes generated after the "urban transformation project", which is a current issue, and the pioneering work for the evaluation of these wastes, it was deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors of TÜBİTAK MAM to give the 2014 "Collaboration Award" to the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Urban Transformation Services of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, and it was presented to Mr. Mustafa Tahsin BADEM by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat MAKARACI.
In the second part of the workshop, a panel moderated by Mr. Coşkun SAĞIR, Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Department, answered the questions of sector and municipality representatives on the subject and received their opinions and suggestions. It was emphasized that the scope of the project should be expanded and the project should continue in order to transfer the results of the project to practice in every region of our country and to create more areas of use of waste.
The workshop and panel discussions were well attended and the expected goal of the workshop was achieved and successfully concluded.
