Union of Municipalities of Turkey (UMT) UMT Secretary General Assoc. Dr. Birol Ekici visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) on 25 September 2020.

Dr. Murat Makaracı, MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Director Dr. Selma Ayaz, MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Deputy Director Özgen Ercan, MAM Chemical Technology Institute Deputy Director Assoc. Dr. Osman Okur, Vice President of TÜBİTAK MAM, Assoc. Dr. Birol Ekici, Secretary General of UMT, and Assoc. Dr. Murat Makaracı, Vice President of MAM, delivered speeches at the meeting, which was attended by Assoc. Dr. Fehmi Akgün, Deputy Director of MAM Energy Institute, and Assoc. Dr. Salih Dabak, Deputy Director of MAM Materials Institute. Subsequently, live remote-connected demos and videos were shown about TÜBİTAK MAM ATHOM, RİTM and HEPP projects.
During the meeting, with the participation of Dr. Osman Okur, Acting President of TÜBİTAK MAM and Remzi Ertek, General Manager of Erzurum Water and Sewerage Administration, the Signature Ceremony of "Erzurum Aziziye Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Treatment Sludge Zero Waste Approach Implementation Project" was held.
Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to design the Ultrasound Assisted Cavitation Reactor developed by TÜBİTAK MAM and Biyoflora in accordance with the Aziziye Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and to increase the biodegradability of treatment sludge from the old WWTP and to implement the application project for on-site sludge reduction.
After the meeting, the laboratories of the Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE), Energy Institute (EE) and Materials Institute (ME) were visited and information was given about the WWTP Cavitation Reactor, Dissolved Oxygen Sensor, Water Safety Warning System and Waste Utilization and Wastewater Treatment Sludge Products within the scope of Zero Waste Concept.
Cooperation issues were evaluated at the evaluation meeting held after the visits to the Institute.
