Within the scope of the "Project on Updating the National Action Plan for the Protection of Our Seas against Land-Based Pollutants", the "Workshop on Assessment of the Current Situation" was held on November 29-30, 2016 at the TUBITAK Presidency/Ankara Meeting Halls. A total of 72 participants from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, TUBITAK-MAM Environment and Clean Production Institute, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, TurkStat, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Tourism, SHOD, universities, NGOs and Metropolitan Municipalities in coastal provinces attended the Workshop.
The workshop started with the opening speech of Mr. Murat Turan, Head of Marine and Coastal Management Department from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, General Directorate of Environmental Management. Afterwards, the KKK NAP Project was introduced and presentations were made throughout the first day of the Workshop on the projects and findings of the Project, the results of which are planned to be directly utilized.
On the second day of the Workshop, firstly the introduction of the Thematic Working Groups, working method and the documents to be used were briefed and then the participants were divided into "Urban/Municipal, Industrial and Agricultural Thematic Working Groups" according to their subjects and directed to different meeting rooms with the Group Leaders. The Thematic Working Groups made assessments on the current status of land-based pollution sources, pressures/impacts, hotspots, realization status of the investments included in the KKK NAP 2004, existing investments, financial resources, relevant policy/action plans/strategy documents, national legislation and problems experienced in these areas. The Thematic Working Groups were guided by the Group Leader of each area and the evaluations/recommendations made within the groups were recorded by the rapporteurs designated for each group.
Following the meetings of the Thematic Working Groups, a general evaluation of the work carried out during the Workshop was made by the 4th Thematic Working Group, the "Monitoring Working Group" consisting of representatives from each Thematic Working Group. Afterwards, all participants came together again and listened to the group presentations made by the Thematic Working Group Leaders and Rapporteurs and made the final evaluations of the Workshop.
The results of the Baseline Assessment Workshop formed an important basis for the "Workshop on Identification of Targets, Gaps and Hotspots" planned to be held in January 2017 within the scope of the Project.
