"Applied Resource Efficiency Training" was held in Istanbul on September 1-2 and 10-11, 2015 in cooperation with Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) and TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE

Representatives of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology General Directorate of Productivity, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization General Directorate of Environmental Management, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization General Directorate of Environmental Management, Ministry of Development General Directorate of Economic Sectors and Coordination, representatives of various institutions and organizations and representatives of companies participated in the training, which was held in two stages, theoretical and practical.

Dr. Selma AYAZ, Director of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, gave information about the structure, studies and activities of the institute in her opening speech. In her speech, she stated that our institute also carries out the duty of "National Cleaner Production Center". Erbil BÜYÜKBAY, Director of the Environment and Energy Branch of Istanbul Chamber of Industry, emphasized the importance of the training for industrialists.

Afterwards, Dr. Şeyma KARAHAN, one of the lead researchers of the institute, emphasized the importance of conducting cleaner production studies for industrial enterprises within the scope of the National Cleaner Production Center duty of the institute and that they can carry out joint projects with the public and private sector and that they are ready for cooperation.

Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Göksel Niyazi DEMİRER from METU Environmental Engineering Faculty informed the participants theoretically about the current developments in resource efficiency, the concept of cleaner production, cleaner production implementation methods and approaches, cleaner production auditing and cleaner production implementation examples from various sectors.

The practical part of the training was carried out at NORMSAN Ticaret Metal İmalat Sanayi Ltd. Şti. on September 10-11. In the applied training, firstly, field work was carried out in the company and cleaner production opportunities were identified by the participants. Afterwards, in the group studies moderated by the researchers of TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute; the amount of savings that can be achieved in the fields of energy, water and raw materials for the identified cleaner production opportunities and the costs of the necessary investments were detailed.
