The project realized by Ahsen Karakuş and Begüm Abdulhayoğlu, who were finalists in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities in the 2204-C High School Students Polar Research Projects competition, which was completed in 2022 with great interest of young people, continues to attract attention.

The youth summarize their projects as follows:
In general terms, our knowledge about the poles does not go beyond polar bears, penguins, being remote and cold. The poles play a key role not only for factors such as climate change and increasing greenhouse gas emissions, but also for the past and future of the world.
Our Project Aim; To draw attention to the polar regions, to encourage students to Polar research by preparing a national and domestic animation that provides information and encourages scientific research by introducing our Turkish scientists and their work, Arctic Region peoples and polar creatures. In addition, to draw attention to the Social and Humanities within the scope of Polar research and to analyze the effect of the animation we prepared on students with evaluation scales.
In our literature review, we did not come across a national and local animation about the Antarctic and Arctic regions. The contributions of our Turkish scientists, who have been involved in polar research from past to present, to polar sciences are not sufficiently known by our public. In addition, the necessity of entertaining, informative and interesting tools such as animation emerges in order to increase the knowledge of young generations about the poles and to encourage them to polar research.
That's why we felt the need to make this animation. We started our work with our advisor Mustafa Kemal Kalkan. We created our scenario in line with the information we obtained as a result of literature review. After creating our character designs, we made the voiceovers. At the end of a long, tiring but enjoyable process, we completed our work.
A different aspect of our work is the creation of animated characters of Burcu Özsoy, Hakan Yavaşoğlu, Sinan Yirmibeşoğlu and Özgün Oktar, our scientists who went to the poles. Our characters provide information about the importance of the polar regions and give encouraging advice to young generations to conduct scientific studies. Inuit, one of the Arctic peoples, were also included in our animation and information about their culture was given. Polar creatures provided scientific and interesting information about the polar regions in our animation.
As a result of the study, it was determined that the students watched the animation with interest and started to ask questions and conduct research about the Poles. The fact that the students also wanted to show the animation to their close circles shows that the targeted goals in terms of widespread impact and sustainability have been achieved.
