Within the scope of the "Olive Sector Waste Management Project" launched on August 29, 2014 with the contract signed between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, a Project Inaugural Workshop was held on November 27, 2014 in Ankara/Macunköy İLBANK A.Ş. Social and Training Facilities-Macunköy. Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Development Agencies, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, olive oil enterprises, pomace processing facilities and decanter manufacturer companies participated in the workshop.
On November 27, 2014, the opening workshop of the project started with the opening speeches made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haldun KARAN, Deputy Director of the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production on behalf of TÜBİTAK-MAM and Recep AKDENİZ, Deputy Director General on behalf of the General Directorate of Environmental Management. In the workshop, Dr. Selda MURAT HOCAOĞLU, Project Coordinator from the Institute of Environment and Cleaner Production on behalf of TUBITAK-MAM, provided detailed information to all participants about the current situation of the olive oil sector and the activities to be carried out within the scope of the project, followed by the presentation of Dr. Nejat ÖZİLBEY, Board Member of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK). Afterwards, a discussion section was held where the opinions of the participants were taken on the wastewater problem of the sector, the transformation of production from 3 phases to 2 phases and waste management.
