Noise Map of 15 Provinces in Turkey is Being Prepared

Within the scope of 'Preparation of Strategic Noise Maps of Settlement Areas' Project, 'Field and Modeling Studies Planning' meeting was held on 19-20 March 2015 at TUBITAK Ankara Headquarters. The meeting was attended by Betül AYDIN, Head of Air Management Department, Safiye BİLGİLİ, Branch Manager and Nuray HÜSMEN from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization; Dr. Nesimi ÖZKURT, Lead Researcher, Deniz SARI and Samet Feyyaz HAMAMCI, Assistant Researchers from TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Environment and Cleaner Production Institute. The meeting was attended by 33 representatives from 15 municipalities (Adana, Gaziantep, Manisa, Eskişehir, Balıkesir, Kahramanmaraş, Sakarya, Erzurum, Sivas, Elazığ, Trabzon, Adıyaman and Mersin).

'Preparation of Strategic Noise Maps of Residential Areas' (YERGÜR) Project started on March 5, 2015 with the protocol signed between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and TÜBİTAK MAM and will end on December 10, 2015. During this period, noise maps of 15 provinces will be prepared.

At the 'Field and Modeling Studies Planning' meeting, representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, TÜBİTAK MAM and Municipalities made plans on the identification of urbanized areas in their provinces, preparation of road and industrial noise source inventories and evaluation of geographical database qualifications. In the meeting, TÜBİTAK MAM representatives also made presentations to the participants on the purpose and importance of the project, work plan, project outputs and noise mapping.
