"National Environment and Water Management Panel" organized by Elazığ Municipality on March 17-18, 2016 was held with an intense participation. The opening speeches of the panel were delivered by Mr. Mücahit Yanılmaz, Mayor of Elazığ Municipality, local MPs and Governor of Elazığ. The panel was organized in 4 different sessions covering the topics of Aquaculture Potential, Surface Water Resources, Water Management and Sustainable Use. The 2nd session of the panel was chaired by Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar (Vice Rector of Fırat University). The panel was completed with the speeches of Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK- MAM Environment and Clean Production Institute, on "Basin Management within the Scope of Water Framework Directive and the Example of Euphrates-Tigris Basin", Prof. Dr. Cumali Kınacı (Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs - General Directorate of Water Management) on "Water Management, 2023 targets, current situation and problems", and Dr. Bülent Selek (General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works - Head of Survey, Planning and Allocations Department) on "Current situation and 2023 targets in Turkey's dams".

After the presentations made by the panelists in the other sessions, the conclusion and evaluation session started. In this session chaired by Prof. Dr. Bülent ŞEN, Mayor of Elazığ Municipality Mr. Mücahit Yanılmaz, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs - General Director of Water Management Prof. Dr. Cumali Kınacı, Istanbul Technical University - Lecturer. Mücahit Yanılmaz, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs - General Director of Water Management Prof. Dr. Cumali Kınacı, Istanbul Technical University - Lecturer Prof. Dr. İzzet Öztürk evaluated the day. It was emphasized that environmental infrastructure investments should be completed especially in the region and scientific studies on environmental management should be supported. The event received significant coverage in the local press.
