On April 19, 2017, TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute (ÇTÜE) organized a meeting on "Evaluation of Modeling Studies on Climate-Water-Energy in Turkey".

The meeting was held at TÜBİTAK MAM under the chairmanship of Dr. Selma Ayaz, Director of the Institute at ÇTÜE. The meeting was attended by many experts from TÜBİTAK MAM, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haldun Karan, Deputy Institute Director of ÇTÜE, and many experts related to modeling studies. Apart from TÜBİTAK MAM, academicians from Istanbul Technical University, Middle East Technical University, Dokuz Eylül University, Kadir Has University and Turkish Water Institute, who are experts in the fields of Earth/Atmosphere/Marine modeling, Hydrological/Hydrogeological/Water Quality/Air Quality modeling, participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the status of Earth/Atmosphere/Marine modeling, Hydrological/Hydrogeological/Water Quality/Air Quality modeling studies in our country was evaluated. It was stated that the current modeling studies in our country are mostly from modeling software widely used in the world and are used more because they are open source. The feasibility and sustainability of modeling studies specific to our country were discussed. Considering the studies carried out in our country, the technical infrastructure needs of modeling were evaluated in terms of data and policies, and solutions were proposed to overcome the deficiencies. Determination of the requirements for the establishment and sustainability of monitoring programs for modeling studies was emphasized. Views were exchanged on what kind of projects are needed in the short-medium-long term.
