Within the scope of the KEBAN Hydroelectric Power Plant Control Systems (HES) Development Project being carried out by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Energy Institute (TÜBİTAK MAM EE), Keban Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is located on the Euphrates River and is the third largest power plant of Turkey; Speed Regulator, Warning System, Protection System SCADA, Switchgear System and Unit Power Transformer, Internal Requirement System, Auxiliary Systems (Level and Flow Measurement System, Bearing Lubrication System, Cooling System, Vibration Measurement System, Drainage System, Transformer Fire Extinguishing System) are completely renewed with domestic engineering using up-to-date technology.
The project started in October 2017 and all design/manufacturing works have been completed. After TÜBİTAK MAM EE, EÜAŞ HEPP Department, EÜAŞ Keban HEPP Operation Directorate and EÜAŞ Sarıyar Hasan Polatkan HEPP Operation Directorate completed the work packages within their responsibilities, the installation and commissioning of three of the existing 8 units were successfully completed in November 2019, December 2020 and February 2021. The power generation capacity, which had actually decreased to 150 MW in previous years due to operational problems in subsystems such as bearing lubrication system and cooling system, was increased to 175 MW thanks to the renovations and digitalizations made with local engineering within the scope of the project. When the project is completed, the installed capacity of the power plant is planned to increase by 180 MW with an investment value of 225 M $.
