International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) Director Dr. Lawrence Banks, ICGEB Molecular Pathology Group Leader Dr. Emanuele Buratti and IFOM Scientific Director Prof. Dr. Marco Foiani visited TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center on March 18, 2021 to discuss the establishment of an ICGEB Regional Research Centre (RRC) in Turkey.
The meeting, hosted by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, Vice President of TÜBİTAK and President (V.) of TÜABİTAK MAM, was attended by Prof. Dr. Marco Foiani, IFOM Scientific Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Karadağ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hilal Yazıcı Malkoçoğlu from TÜBİTAK MAM Life Sciences and Dr. Ezgi Bener from TÜBİTAK MAM Strategy and Business Development Directorate.
At the meeting, TÜBİTAK MAM President (V.) Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil made a presentation on TÜBİTAK MAM. Subsequently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Karadağ made a presentation on Regional Research Center.
ICGEB Delegation examined the research activities and infrastructure facilities of TÜBİTAK MAM Life Sciences. TÜBİTAK MAM President (V.) Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, Vice President for Climate Change and Sustainability Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy, MAM President Advisor Prof. Dr. Şaban Tekin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Karadağ and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hilal Yazıcı Malkoçoğlu from Life Sciences accompanied the delegation during their visit to the laboratory. The ICGEB delegation visited the Immunogenetics Laboratory, Diagnostic Technologies Laboratory, Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory (BSL-3), Biological Chemicals National Test Center, Medical Biotechnology Center of Excellence and was informed by the competent staff about the work carried out.
ICGEB has 46 state-of-the-art laboratories in Trieste, Italy, New Delhi, India and Cape Town, South Africa and an interactive network with more than 65 Member States. TÜBİTAK MAM Life Sciences, as an affiliated center, has been representing TÜBİTAK and our country in this organization since 1989.
