TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Environment and Clean Production Institute (ÇTÜE) and BİYOFLORA LTD. developed a domestic cavitation reactor in order to implement the management of sewage sludge within the framework of the "Zero Waste" approach.
Disposal costs of treatment sludge generated as a result of the process in wastewater treatment plants constitute % 50 - % 60 of the plant operating costs. Therefore, reducing treatment sludge and saving significant amounts of energy and land has become a major challenge today. In general, effective digestion and dewatering of sewage sludge is a very difficult process and much of the energy in the sludge is disposed of unused.
With the developed cavitation reactor, the amount of energy in the treatment sludge is increased and the amount of bio-solids that need to be disposed of is reduced by disintegrating the particles with the local high temperature and pressure values obtained without causing any negative impact on the environment. It is also possible to remove organic micropollutants from the sludge.
The hydrodynamic cavitation reactor was installed in Erzurum Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant and Installation work continues at the Muğla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant.
