Van to the Poles Exhibition Opened at Kocaeli Science Center

In order to determine the knowledge of Fine Arts High School art department students about the polar regions and to investigate the contribution of the awareness created in them by increasing the diversity of knowledge to the awareness studies on polar regions and climate change to be carried out in the society, Van Fine Arts High School Visual Arts / Painting Teacher Murat Özaraz and Philosophy Group Teacher Özge Odabaşı Koç coordinated by volunteer 12th grade art department students Arzu Kara, Beyza Güngör, Beyza Güngör, Bedirhan Uzunay, Neçirvan Mamedi, Furkan Çolbay, Furkan Adsaz, Yılmaz Bakır, Hüseyin Kaplan, Muhammet Karataş. Grade 12 Painting Department students Arzu Kara, Beyza Güngör, Bedirhan Uzunay, Neçirvan Mamedi, Furkan Çolbay, Furkan Adsaz, Yılmaz Bakır, Hüseyin Kaplan, Muhammet Karataş, Münevver Öter, Yakup Çaçur were informed about the characteristics and importance of the polar regions, living and plant species, and the effects of climate change around the publications and documentaries on the website of the TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute. As a result of the 6-month study, oil paintings on the theme of "Climate Change/Arctic-Antarctica" were created by the students participating in the study, which aimed to contribute to the awareness of individuals of all ages to have knowledge about the polar regions and to be sensitive to the environment.

The exhibition was first opened in the art gallery of Van Üvercinka Culture and Art Center. Later, the works and their owners exhibited their paintings on a large scale at the 2nd Polar Festival held on December 1, 2021 at TÜBİTAK Gebze campus with the support of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute. The students participating in the work informed the visitors about the oil painting works that draw attention to the impact of global warming on the poles.

Now, with the support of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute and Kocaeli Science Center, the exhibition is waiting for you in the Atrium Area of Kocaeli Science Center to be opened on April 18, 2022 and free of charge until June 19, 2022.
