Founded in 1995 by the European Science Foundation, EPB (European Polar Board) has been a structure that brings together the scientific activities of European countries in the poles on a common ground and acts as a bridge of cooperation. As a result of our country increasing both national and international studies in the field of Polar Sciences since 2017, joint studies are carried out with EPB and this cooperation is planned to be developed.

The poles, both the Arctic and Antarctica, are at the top of the list of the world's most important regions of interest to scientists. Countries have to be in constant communication with each other in polar research, where international cooperation is important both in logistics and scientific studies.

Our country coordinates its activities by bringing Turkish Science to the poles and cooperating with other countries under the auspices of the Presidency, under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and under the roof of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute. In this context, our country has started its initiatives for membership to EPB (European Polar Board) and our application was accepted at the EPB Autumn 2020 General Assembly Meeting on October 15-16, 2020 and our membership was made official.
