Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method used to assess and report the environmental impacts that occur throughout the life cycle, starting from the acquisition of all inputs used in the production of products or services and covering all relevant production, shipment, final use and disposal stages.
With the "Development of National Life Cycle Assessment Database Project" carried out by TUBITAK Marmara Research Center on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Technology General Directorate of Strategic Research and Productivity, the National LCA Database, which forms the basis of LCA studies necessary to support sustainable development and to achieve resource efficiency and economic and environmental benefits, is being developed.
The energy and domestic and industrial water supply datasets, which constitute the core of the National WDD Database, have been calculated to represent our country both geographically, technologically and temporally, and have been audited by an independent international peer reviewer. Within the scope of the project, the development of datasets for steel, cement, lime and freight transportation (road, rail, maritime and air) produced in arc furnace plants is ongoing.
