The Closing Meeting of the "Receiving Environment Based Discharge Limit Determination - Küçük Menderes Basin Case Study" Project was held online via remote access platform on June 30, 2021.

The project "Receiving Environment Based Discharge Limit Determination - The Case of Küçük Menderes Basin", which is managed by TÜBİTAK MAM and partnered by İzmir Dokuz Eylül University and Pamukkale University and supported by TÜBİTAK-1003, started in August 2018 and is planned to be completed in August 2021.

The aim of the project is to synthesize the approaches applied in the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) (WFD) and in the United States of America (USA) to determine discharge standards, to develop receiving environment based discharge limits by integrating different approaches and to put forward a modeling based method that can be applied in the basins of our country.

A closing meeting was organized in order to give information about the works carried out and the results obtained in the project and to receive opinions/suggestions. The meeting was held with the participation of 66 people from the Provincial Organizations of Public Institutions and Organizations, Universities and Non-Governmental Organizations within the borders of Küçük Menderes Basin. At the opening of the meeting, Dr. Selma Ayaz, Institute Director of TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE and also Project Manager, made a presentation on the project introduction, followed by Dr. Mehmet Dilaver, Principal Researcher of TÜBİTAK MAM ÇTÜE, "Water Quality Monitoring Results and Parameters Selected for Modeling", Prof. Dr. Alper Elçi, Lecturer at Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Environmental Engineering, "Mathematical Analysis of Water Quality Monitoring Results and Parameters Selected for Modeling", Prof. Dr. Alper Elçi, Lecturer at Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Environmental Engineering, "Mathematical Analysis of Water Quality Monitoring Results and Parameters Selected for Modeling". Prof. Dr. Alper Elçi "Determination of Küçük Menderes Water Quality by Applying Mathematical Modeling" and finally Prof. Dr. Tamer Ayvaz, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Pamukkale University, "Determination of Receiving Environment Based Industrial Discharge Limits by Simulation-Optimization Model". The meeting ended with the questions, comments and suggestions of the participants.
